Max Oppenheimer was a runner-up and Mateo Guynn and Kenneth Vargas earned honorable mentions. They reviewed the Malala documentary. They competed against 1600 national entries!

School will be closed the week of Monday, November 23 to Friday, November 27. Classes resume Monday, November 30.

No free dress day.

Ms. Lombarski, Bridge Coordinator & 7th Grade ESM Teacher, is organizing a Food Drive for Thanksgiving in coordination with the L.A. Food Bank. She will have donation boxes for every homeroom/classroom that wants to participate. Suggested items to donate include:

canned protein (ex: tuna, sardines, stews and soups)
peanut butter and jelly
canned fruit and vegetables
fruit juices
staples such as beans, rice, pasta

Should you prefer to give a monetary donation directly, Ms. Lombarski is also sponsoring a Thomas Starr King Middle School Virtual Food Drive on the L.A. Food Drive. Our school was selected as State Finalist in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest, a nationwide competition to increase interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by challenging teachers and students to take topics out of traditional classroom settings and into local communities. We will receive two Samsung Galaxy® Tabs and the opportunity to win additional prizes.

Do you love to ACT, SING, OR DANCE? Celebrate the ten year anniversary of Disney’s
smash hit movie, High School Musical. Join the jocks, brainiacs, thespians, and skater dudes at East High in this song and dance extravaganza. High School Musical is fun for the whole family and its large cast size can easily be expanded to accommodate many grade levels. Infectious, danceable songs like "We’re All in this Togther", "Get’cha Head in the Game", and "Bop to the Top" among many others are sure to engage performers and audiences alike!

Uniform Optional. Students may opt out of uniform on Picture Day, but attire must still be school appropriate.

In September of 1996, the school community established a dress code and uniform policy. The standards for dress emphasize that our school is a place for learning, and our primary concern is the education and safety of our students. The school uniform must be worn while attending school and during school-sponsored activities.
